Sydnee Wynter Amie Nisyok
Sydnee proudly belongs to the Ganada (Frog) Clan and the House of Ksim Xsaan from the Nisga’a Nation. She also carries her identity as a member of the 'Iksduqwi’inixw (Eagle) Clan from the Haisla Nation in Northern British Columbia. Deeply rooted in her cultural teachings, Sydnee is guided by her Nox (mother), Loretta, and supported by her Nigwoot (father), Walter, who help ensure she receives the wisdom and knowledge she needs at every stage of life.
A passionate learner, Sydnee’s favourite subjects are science and English. In her free time, she enjoys playing guitar and piano, as well as dedicating herself to basketball—a sport she excels in. In 2024, she helped lead her team to victory at the Jr. All Native Basketball Tournament, winning the championship.
Sydnee’s growing awareness of Indigenous history and the rights of the child has deeply influenced her storytelling. The impact of the Sixties Scoop on her own family inspired her to write a powerful and personal story, one rooted in truth, resilience, and hope. Through her writing, she honours the strength of her ancestors and aims to inspire other Indigenous youth to stand up for their rights, advocate for their communities, and shine as beacons of strength for both older and younger generations.
