On Saturday, September 26, Voices of Future Generations joined families at Newmarket Public Library for Stories of the Heart: A Community Reading Adventure, a special Culture Days celebration inspired by this year’s theme, “Many Stories, One Voice.” The event brought together families, young authors, and community members to celebrate children’s stories, creativity, and the power of sharing our voices through books.

Visitors had the opportunity to discover the work of young authors from across Canada, including children’s books published through Voices of Future Generations. Families enjoyed exploring the stories and illustrations and learning more about the young writers behind them. Many participants were also excited to hear about our upcoming writing contest and the opportunity for children and youth to share stories of their own.

The event was a space for families and community members to learn about emerging authors.

We were also fortunate to share the space with other young and emerging authors. Alongside Voices of Future Generations was young author Araav Anand, whose book Court Dreams brings his passion for basketball to life through storytelling. Nearby, the creators of Pocketlings shared their ABC affirmations and handmade dolls representing characters from their stories.

The day was a wonderful reminder that children have powerful stories to tell—and that those stories can take many forms, from books and illustrations to handmade characters, personal passions, and imaginative worlds. Thank you to Newmarket Public Library and everyone who stopped by to read, connect, ask questions, and celebrate the voices of young authors. We are grateful to have been part of a day filled with storytelling, connection, creativity, and a shared passion for literacy.
